Teen Residential Treatment

Where structure meets soul, AND teens don't just stabilize, they transform

Residential treatment provides a higher level of support and clinical structure. Teens live on-site in a supervised setting where treatment, academics, and daily routines are integrated into one cohesive plan.

Teen Tree’s residential program offers stability, consistency, and intensive therapeutic care designed specifically for adolescents.

When Residential Treatment May Be Appropriate

What Is Teen Residential Treatment?

Residential treatment is a live-in program where teens receive around-the-clock clinical support, daily therapeutic programming, and the kind of consistent, immersive environment that makes real transformation possible. Unlike outpatient therapy — where a teen attends sessions a few times a week and returns home — residential treatment means your teen is fully supported every hour of every day, by a dedicated team that knows them deeply and is invested in their recovery.

But at Teen Tree, residential treatment is something more than that clinical definition suggests. It is a fully designed experience — one where every hour of a teen’s day is purposeful, every relationship they form is therapeutic, and every part of the program is working in concert toward one goal: sending your teen home as a genuinely different person than the one who arrived.

Teens come to residential treatment when the challenges they’re facing have grown beyond what weekly outpatient therapy can adequately address. When safety is a concern. When the home environment — despite the best efforts of everyone in it — has become a place where a teen cannot yet stabilize. When what a teen needs is not just more therapy, but a complete reset of their daily environment, their relationships, their sense of themselves, and their vision of what their life can be.

That is exactly what Teen Tree is built to provide.

Our Residential Treatment Approach

Teen Tree’s residential program is not built around a standard protocol. It is built around your teen.

From the day of admission, our clinical team conducts a comprehensive assessment that goes far beyond presenting symptoms — mapping the full emotional, relational, neurological, and developmental landscape of each adolescent in our care. From that foundation, we construct a treatment plan that is genuinely individualized: responsive to who your teen is, what they’ve been through, what they need clinically, and what they are capable of becoming.

What unfolds from there is a daily experience unlike anything in conventional residential care.

A full-life therapeutic environment. Treatment at Teen Tree doesn’t happen only in scheduled therapy sessions. It happens in life coaching conversations that excavate a teen’s values, identity, and purpose. It happens in brain-body programming that helps teens understand their own nervous systems and develop real regulatory capacity. It happens in art classes, music lessons, dance, fitness, and animal-assisted experiences that rebuild a teen’s relationship with their own aliveness. It happens in the quiet moments between programs, in the culture of the building itself — a culture shaped by staff who don’t just model our core values, but live them, every single day.

Teen-influenced from the start. Teens at Teen Tree are not passive recipients of treatment. They are active participants in it. From co-designing their own treatment plan alongside our clinical team, to having genuine input into the activities and experiences that shape their time here, our teens are treated as capable, whole human beings whose voices matter — because they do.

Family at the center, not the periphery. Families don’t wait at home while their teen receives treatment and hope for the best. At Teen Tree, family involvement is woven into the program from day one. Parents attend their own educational and therapeutic programming — including parallel brain-body workshops — so that by the time a teen is ready to come home, the home itself is ready for them. Treatment plans are co-designed with families. Communication is consistent and transparent. And continuity of care planning begins well before discharge, ensuring the gains made here are protected and supported long after.

Measurement-based, continuously improving. Progress at Teen Tree is never assumed — it is tracked, documented, and reviewed. We use a suite of validated clinical outcome measures that goes well beyond standard industry tools, across emotional health, safety, family functioning, self-efficacy, and life readiness. This means every family can see their teen’s progress clearly — not just feel for it in the dark — and our clinical team is continuously refining care based on real data.

Nourishment as clinical care. At Teen Tree, what a teen eats is never an afterthought. We believe deeply in the connection between gut health and mental health — and the science backs us up. Every teen in our program receives individual sessions with our licensed dietician and nutritionist, one of the most amazing-hearted professionals you will ever encounter in this field. Together, they build a fully customized nutrition and meal plan tailored to each teen’s specific health needs, mental wellness goals, and recovery journey. Every meal served at Teen Tree is dietician-reviewed and approved — clean, intentional, and designed to nourish the brain and body simultaneously. Gut health, digestion, diet evaluation, and physical wellness goals are all part of the clinical picture here, because we understand that you cannot fully heal a mind without also caring for the body it lives in.

A culture that heals. Perhaps the most powerful and least talked-about dimension of Teen Tree’s program is our staff culture. We invest deeply in the growth, wellbeing, and development of every person who works here. Our core values aren’t JUST posted on a wall — they are modeled, held to, and lived without exception. When staff thrive, teens feel it. When the people around you are genuinely well, grounded, and proud of the work they do, that energy becomes part of the healing environment itself.

What Teens Experience Every Day

A structured daily rhythm at Teen Tree is designed to balance therapeutic intensity with genuine joy — because we believe both are essential to recovery. A typical day may include:

  • Individual therapy with an adolescent-trained clinician
  • Group therapeutic programming covering emotional regulation, communication, relationships, and identity
  • Brain-body education with Dr. Camea Peca’s specialized adolescent curriculum
  • Life coaching focused on values, purpose, and real-world readiness
  • Academic support to keep teens on track educationally throughout treatment
  • Creative programming — art classes, music lessons, dance, and expressive activities
  • Physical wellness — fitness, recreational sports, and movement-based activities
  •
  • Individual sessions with a licensed dietician — customized nutrition planning, gut health evaluation, and diet goals built specifically around each teen’s needs
  • Dietician-approved meals at every sitting — clean, intentional food that supports brain health, mood regulation, and physical recovery
  • Gut-brain education that helps teens understand the direct connection between what they eat and how they feel, think, and heal
  • Mindfulness and somatic practices for nervous system regulation
  • Animal-assisted therapeutic experiences
  • Community outings and recreational activities chosen with teen input
  • Family therapy and parent programming

The Bottom Line for Families

Choosing residential treatment for your teen is one of the hardest decisions a parent will ever make. We don’t take that lightly — and we don’t take your trust for granted.

What we can tell you is this: Teen Tree was designed from the ground up to be the program we wished existed. One that treats teens as whole human beings. One that involves families as true partners. One that holds its staff to the highest standard of culture and clinical excellence. One that measures what it does and keeps getting better. And one that sends teens home not just stabilized, but genuinely transformed — with a deeper understanding of themselves, real tools for the life ahead, and the belief that their story is worth continuing.

We also made a commitment that most residential programs never even consider: that the food our teens eat would be held to the same standard as the therapy they receive. Every meal at Teen Tree is reviewed and approved by a licensed dietician. Every teen receives individual nutritional care tailored to their specific needs. Because nourishing the body is not separate from healing the mind — it is part of it. And our teens deserve both.

That is what Teen Tree is. And we would be honored to walk this path with your family.

Your teen doesn’t have to face this alone. We’re here to help.

FAQ

How long does residential treatment typically last?

Length of stay varies based on clinical needs, progress, and treatment goals.

Yes. Safety is our highest priority. Teen Tree’s residential program provides 24/7 supervision in a structured, therapeutic environment designed specifically for adolescents. Our licensed clinical team follows established safety protocols, conducts ongoing risk assessments, and creates individualized treatment plans to ensure each teen’s physical and emotional well-being.

Yes. Education continues during residential treatment. Teens participate in structured academic programming so they can stay on track with their studies. We coordinate with your teen’s home school whenever possible to support credit transfer and ease the transition back to their academic environment after discharge.

Family involvement is an important part of treatment. Teens typically have scheduled phone calls and family therapy sessions each week. The specific structure may vary depending on clinical recommendations and your teen’s treatment plan. Our goal is to strengthen family relationships while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.

Before discharge, we create a personalized aftercare plan to support continued progress. This may include step-down levels of care (such as partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient programs), outpatient therapy, psychiatry, and school coordination. We work closely with families to ensure a smooth transition and ongoing support.

Teen Tree works with many major insurance providers. Coverage for residential treatment varies by plan, so our admissions team will verify your benefits and explain coverage details clearly. We are committed to helping families understand their options and navigate the process.
